LAMIN J. SISE worked for the United Nations for thirty years in Geneva and atUN Headquarters in New York. As a lawyer, he worked in various legal capacities for the Organization and later on as senior adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Kofi Annan. He assisted the Secretary-Generalin the diplomatic activities undertaken by Mr. Annan as a close collaborator and confidant. These included mediation and negotiation with authorities at the highest levels in nearly one hundred countries.
From 1977 to 1983 Mr. Sise served as Deputy Legal Adviser of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development in Geneva. From 1983 to 2007, he served in New York in the Office of Legal Affairs, Department of Peacekeeping Operations and in the Executive Office of the Secretary-General. Mr. Sise has continued to work with former Secretary-General Annan on mediation efforts concerning the post-electoral violence in Kenya and the civil war in Syria.
Mr. Sise was born and raised in The Gambia, where he was educated at the primary and secondary levels. He holds the B.A., M.A. and Ph.D degrees from JohnsHopkins University and its School of Advanced International Studies in the United States. He also holds the LL.B degree from the University of Cambridgein England.
